Introduction to the tapping points
|
What to expect... and What to do
THE EXERCISE IS TOO FAST
When you run the exercise in the beginning. You will most likely feel that it's going too fast.
Do not worry, your subconscious mind is much faster than your conscious mind.
And soon you will feel the speed is just right.
What to do about it
Just tap along as best you can. You can't do it wrong

THE INTENSITY GOES UP IN THE BEGINNING
As you start on an issue. You might start with an SUD/SUT intensity of 7 or 8.
But then, when you run the exercises the intensity goes UP.
This is can throw you, but it is absolutely normal.
What is happening, is you activating previously subconscious neural nets and making them conscious.
Like sitting in the living room looking into a dirty kitchen. You can only see some of the dirt. But as soon as you go into the kitchen to clean it. You can now see more dirt, that was there all along, but was previously out of sight.
What to do about it
Keep going, the fact that you experience a change in intensity.
Is a clear sign that you are activating the right neural nets.
Now we just need to clean out the dirt, using the exercises.
You will clean your kitchen. It just had more dirt than you could see from your living room.

EMOTIONAL DISCOMFORT BETWEEN SESSIONS
As you embark on rewiring your brain. You will be activating the neural nets in your brain causing you your issue.
So while your brain is 'Under Reconstruction' you will most likely experience some emotional discomforts.
But that is quite alright, alas not fun nor convenient.
A useful way to look at it. Is the same way you would with the process of rebuilding your kitchen.
It is less comfortable while it's happening, than it was to have the old kitchen.
But you know it is temporary AND you will have the new better kitchen you want, once the reconstruction is done.
In fact... If what you are wanting is a monumental rebuild. Opting for a 'smooth' ride, will make for a drawn out process.
Whereas accepting a higher level of discomfort and inconvenience in the process, will lead to a vastly reduced timeframe for your rebuild.
However beware, you can push too hard for change. And that shuts down your brain and it becomes uncooperative.
A straightforward way to gauge if you are in the zone for optimal change. Is by rating where you are on a scale from Green to Red.

Green-Yellow-Red
Green = You are in your comfort zone and no change to existing conditioning will occur. Yellow -> Orange = You feel mild to severe emotional discomfort. This is where change happen. Red = You feel overwhelmed, doubt, panic, fear, anger etc. You are pushing too darn hard and your brain is no longer cooperating as it is in 'Fight, Flight or Freeze' mode. If you accidentally push yourself into Red. |
What to do about it
Go at a pace that fits your brain - give yourself a break for a day or 2.
Then come back and start again.
The best pace to set is one that keeps YOU in yellow to orange.
Never push yourself into Red and feeling overwhelmed or blown out. It does NOT rebuild anything.
Worst case it leaves you stuck and reaffirming old programs of failure and inability to make change.
Your new brain-tracks will become stronger and stronger, making them faster and faster to auto activate.
The ingredients of rewiring are, Attention, Instruction, and Practice.
And they will rewire your neural networks to reflect your intentions.
TEMPORARY SORROW OR SADNESS
Make room for any sorrow or sadness that comes up during the rewiring process.
The issue you are working on, may have caused you tremendous pain/stress/struggle/discomfort/disappointment/regret going through your life.
So now, even beginning to see/feel/experience it changing, transforming, clearing.
Can cause your brain to want to reflect on all this suffering you have had to endure.
Because now it is free to admit how hard it ACTUALLY was and that is absolutely ok.
In fact, it's a healthy sign of your change.
If you find yourself getting stuck during the process.
And the exercise is not moving the needle when tapping.
What to do about it
Try putting on some sad music and see if it helps you access your grief and just tap tap tap the points at random, while you give yourself permission to let go and empty out your system of this pain.

Feeling good but somehow unsettled
As you clear out an issue, especially one that has been with you for years.
It's very common, despite all the good you feel, to feel unsettled or get a sense of unease.
Often it resembles the feeling you get when you are confused about something important to you.
This is a natural response.
Imagine a DIY home improvement project. Replacing an old worn out kitchen you have had and used for years.
But instead of a physical space being remodeled, it's a mental and emotional space.
Right now you are in the process of tearing down and building up. Both at the same time.
And just like you would go into the kitchen space for this that and the other - out of habit.
Only to be reminded "Oh true, nothing is 'in it's right place' right now".
So too does your brain try to go to the mental and emotional spaces it use to have. Only to find that they no longer exist or have changed radically.
We both know how you would handle going to the physical under-construction kitchen.
No matter how unsettling not having a fully functional kitchen is.
You would take a deep breath, remind yourself "this is only temporary, until the new kitchen is finished" and then you would daydream for a few seconds and imagine how wonderful it will be once the new kitchen is in place.
Same thing with your brain remodeling.
What to do about it
Firstly, remind yourself that you are rebuilding a part of your brain - so this is only temporary.
Then Tap on the points while you allow the discomfort you are feeling and give a voice to what you are feeling.
Eg. "I feel a bit uneasy - I'm changing all this stuff in my brain - I will be ok - Rebuilding my brain takes some time - But right now I'm feeling unsettled - My old 'kitchen' is gone and I'm still building the new - I hate not having a 'kitchen' where I know where everything is - I really want my new 'kitchen' done - I can't wait to have my new 'kitchen' done - I'm going to celebrate when my new 'kitchen' is done... "
If this is too abstract, try substituting 'Kitchen' for 'Brain' or 'Me'.
Remember to rate your level of discomfort both before and after - so you KNOW you are moving the ball in the right direction. However unfun it feels at the moment.

SIGNS OF BRAin CHANGE - DURING & BETWEEN EXERCISES
SIGNS DURING THE EXERCISES
These are tell tell signs that your brain is rewiring.
Note: Not everybody experience them, but they are just nice to notice in the process.

- Yawning
- Watery eyes, like when your really tired
- Bubbly intestines - You viceraly feel tension being released
- A feeling of wanting to stretch/move your limbs
SIGNS BETWEEN SESSIONS
Between exercise sessions you will notice how the thoughts you think and the emotions you feel in connection with your issue change for the better. As old connections are replaced with new.
